Cannabis Consumption Lounge License Application Window to Open in Nevada

Cannabis Consumption Lounge License Application Window to Open in Nevada

The Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB) announced the application timeline for cannabis consumption lounge licenses. The application period is open for ten business days from October 14, 2022 to October 27, 2022. According to the release, all Nevada cannabis consumption lounge applications must be completed and submitted through the Accela Cannabis Customer Portal.

Types of Nevada Cannabis Consumption Lounge Licenses

There are two main types of consumption lounge licenses in Nevada: Retail and Independent. Retail consumption lounges are attached to a current dispensary location. Independent consumption lounges are standalone locations with single-use products for sale. A portion of independent consumption lounge licenses will be designated for social equity applicants.

Local Jurisdiction and Las Vegas Cannabis Tourism

Municipalities have the authority to limit the number of cannabis lounges in their jurisdiction. The city may also increase licensing fees on top of the state fees. Carson City, for example, quickly banned cannabis consumption lounges from operating in the city one month after Governor Steve Sisolak signed consumption lounges into law. Las Vegas, where tourists are currently allowed to purchase cannabis but unable to legally consume it anywhere, is looking forward to opening cannabis consumption lounges as quickly as possible.

Nevada Cannabis Looking Ahead

Preparing ahead of the application window is recommended, and the CCB released a document outlining some of the information needed in order to apply. The CCB is hosting a webinar titled “Applying for a Cannabis Consumption Lounge License” on September 30, 2022. Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom told the Las Vegas Review Journal that he expected to see the first consumption lounge open in the first months of 2023.

The application window opens October 14, 2022 and closes on October 27, 2022.
