KushmartNY awarded coveted CAURD cannabis license in New York
KushmartNY made history by becoming one of the first businesses to be awarded a highly coveted Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) License in New York. CAURD licenses were granted to equity applicants and non-profit organizations. Tremaine Wright, CCB’s Chairwoman, said the CAURD licenses represent “the last leg in the Seeding Opportunity Initiative,” a program which enabled justice-driven applicants to become the first to enter the New York cannabis market.

KushmartNY Founder James Adames grew up in Washington Heights and is no stranger to stop and frisk policies--- ultimately serving time on Rikers Island for a cannabis charge. After serving his sentence, he became a documentary film producer for WarnerBros UK. Mr Adames hopes to train and employ others who have been harmed by the war on drugs.

The Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) announced they received over 900 CAURD applications. Only 28 equity licenses were awarded in the highly competitive first round which included KushmartNY. KushmartNY plans to open their first location on Long Island this year.
